Shakespeare Connects: See You Next Time

Please take a moment to complete the evaluation form and send it to Rachel Anderson.

In October of 2009, the English Department at Grand Valley State University hosted an innovative Shakespeare conference that brought together scholars, secondary educators and performers. The main focus of this conference was to establish cross-disciplinary communication that enriched the learning of all who attend.

Keynote Speaker Curt Tofteland
The Shakespeare Connects Conference keynote speaker was Curt Tofteland, the founder and former artistic director of Shakespeare Behind Bars.
Curt is a lifelong Shakespearian actor and director; in his work with the inmates of Kentucky’s Luther Luckett prison he facilitated their discovery of Shakespeare’s work, and though their performances, their discovery of themselves.

Shakespeare on Stage
The conference featured two performances: The Grand Valley State University Shakespeare Festival play Romeo and Juliet and Pigeon Creek Shakespeare Company’s production of Twelfth Night.

Pigeon Creek Shakespeare Performances in September

Wanted to post something here for conference attendees. The Pigeon Creek Shakespeare Company will be presenting at Shakespeare Connects with scenes from our current production of The Winter's Tale. This production is a unique partnership with Wayland Union High School, in which the professional actors from Pigeon Creek rehearse and perform with the Wayland Union students in an experiment in apprenticeship as a form of actor training.
